My Dear Parishioners:
Great and Holy Lent
begins this year on Monday, February 27. There are three Saturday of Souls that
are associated with Lent to remind us to pray for those who have reposed
eternally in hope of the future Resurrection at the Second Coming of Christ.
They are Saturday, February 18, 25, and March 3. On all three days Orthros
(Matins) will be celebrated at 8:30am and the Divine Liturgy of St. John
Chrysostom at 10:00am. A special memorial service will be chanted at the end of
each sacred Liturgy where the names of the deceased will be commemorated and
the kollyva blessed.
Please remember on
these days to submit the proper baptismal names (no “nick names”) of your
deceased clearly written on this sheet (click here to download sheet). You only have
to submit the names once; they will be read during all three Saturday of Souls
services. Return the sheets to my attention. Furthermore, it is paramount for
you to also offer kollyva because the Lord Himself compared his precious
Body and His Awesome Resurrection to wheat: “Unless a grain of wheat
falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much
fruit” (John 12:24). Kollyva remind us that the human being, too, is a seed
that is buried in the earth at death as the seed of wheat. This seed will be
resurrected again by the unconquerable power of God.
HAVE A BLESSED LENT !
